Largest Park in Uganda divided by R. Nile. A boat launch to the bottom of the falls enables you to view the water falls as it cascades through a 7M wide rocky cleft dropping to 43M. The journey upstream allows you to view a variety of bird species, Hippos, elephants, waterbucks and crocodile. An early morning or late afternoon game drive provides a game viewing opportunity at close quarters to see lions, leopards, giraffes, buffalos, Elephants, Uganda Kob and countless herds of impalas. Budongo forest is home to chimpanzees and other primates; chimpanzee trekking can be done here.

Geographical location: North- western Uganda, some 300km from Kampala, directly north of Masindi on the shores of lake Albert.

Physical features: The Park is divided by the Nile into two; the South- Masindi District and the North- Gulu District, It’s from the River Nile that the Park derives its name as Murchison falls National Park. It’s a lush plain and woodlands are the home of the many animals.
Vegetation: A typical savannah grass land, accompanied by whistling acacia trees, Borusas palm trees in the northern part of the park and in the south a closed canopy forest of Rabongo area is dominated by the Iron wood.

Animals: The common animals here are in 76 species. This includes the Elephants, Buffalos, Rothschild giraffe, Uganda kob, Hartebeest, water buck, oribi, bushbuck, bohor reedbuck, sitatunga, bush duiker, warthog, and bush pig, Rhinos that were wipe are to be returned to Murchison falls. There are six species of primates, including the Chimpanzee. Large carnivorers are represented by lion, leopard, and spotted hyena. Nile crocodiles often come to rest on the banks of the Nile within the Park.

Birdlife: 450 species, including goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican, bee eater, king fisher, hornbill, cormorant, and the rare shoebill.

Activities here: Game drives, sport fishing, boat rides to the bottom of the falls, Nature walks offered at the Rubongo forest, and the top of the falls.

Where to stay: Visitors can stay in Masindi town before proceeding to Murchison falls National Park at Masindi Hotel, and New Court View Hotel. Other places are Campsites available at the top of the falls, Rabongo Forest, Paraa and the delta area. Toilets or pit latrines /showers or bathing shelters are provided at these sites. Traditional and self-contained bandas are available at the Red Chilli Rest Camp. In addition Luxurious accommodation is available at the Nile Safari Camp, Sambiya River Lodge, and Paraa Safari Lodges.
