MOUNT ELGON (Sipi Falls)
Asyanut Safaris Tours & Travel … Rent a smile on a smiley Safari
Bordering eastern Uganda and western Kenya, Mt Elgon stands at 4,321 metres, with stunning scenery of wooded slopes, caves, gorges, waterfalls and hot springs. Also found here are birds, Elephant, Leopard, Hyena, Buffalo, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, Duiker and tree hydrax. The cultural makeup in this area offers an interesting form of eco-tourism especially in the “even” years when the locals come out and perform all year round street carnivals, which climax in circumcision for the youngsters. A climb to the peak of mount Elgon would be joyous.
This trip may be combined with a visit to the majestic Sipi falls, which are about 66km north of Mbale town. The three waterfalls can be accessed by several walking trails. The forest exploration center, which is 13km from Sipi falls, may be accessed by road or by walking for about 1hr 30 minutes. There are a variety of pleasant campsites and lodge facilities available like the crow’s nest, Sipi resort and Moses’ camp.
